Growing Hope: Westerlay Orchids Joins Retail Partners to Support Breast Cancer Research

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to honor those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer and to support the continued search for better prevention, detection and treatment.

For the second year, Westerlay Orchids is proud to partner with retailers and floral industry partners to help turn the beauty of an orchid into meaningful support for breast cancer research.

Throughout October, $2 from every 5-inch Pink Gemstone orchid and $1 from every 3-inch Pink Gemstone orchid sold will be donated to cancer research centers selected by participating retail partners.

The Pink Gemstone orchid—with its beautiful pink blooms and long-lasting beauty—is a natural symbol of hope and a fitting flower for a campaign dedicated to making a difference.

“Breast cancer touches just about everyone, either directly or through a loved one,” says Westerlay Orchids President Toine Overgaag. “The Pink Gemstone is a flower of beauty and hope, and the perfect orchid to be part of this meaningful partnership.”

Supporting Breast Cancer Research

This year's campaign brings together Westerlay Orchids and partners including Albertsons, Kroger, Treadway Floral, Coast Produce and Sobeys, with proceeds supporting cancer research organizations across the United States and Canada.

Funds raised through the campaign will benefit:

  • Stanford Medicine, through Albertsons

  • The BC Cancer Foundation, through Sobeys

  • Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, through Kroger

  • Keck School of Medicine at USC, through Kroger

  • University of Arizona Foundation – Ginny L. Clements Breast Cancer Research Institute, through Kroger

  • University of Colorado Cancer Center, through Kroger

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime. Supporting research is an important part of creating hope for the future—and every orchid purchased during this campaign can help.

A Bloom That Gives Back

At Westerlay, we believe that growing beautiful orchids is only part of what we do. As a third-generation, family-owned orchid farm in Carpinteria, California, we are committed to quality, environmental care and giving back to the communities that have supported us for more than four decades.

We grow more than 4 million orchids each year, from flask to finish, with a focus on producing healthy, long-lasting plants. Partnerships like this allow our flowers to do a little more: bring beauty into people's homes while helping support causes that matter.

This October, look for the Pink Gemstone orchid at participating retailers and join us in growing a little more hope, one orchid at a time.
